Underground services: HDD, vacuum excavation, pipe and conduit

Spot On Excavations is an underground services contractor in North Richmond, serving Sydney, the Hawkesbury, Canberra and regional NSW. Six services work together on the same job, delivered with our own rigs, vacuum trucks and excavators.

01

Horizontal directional drilling

We install PE pipe, electrical conduit and telecommunications conduit under roads, driveways, creeks and landscaped ground without a continuous trench. Four Vermeer rigs, including a dual-rod for rock, and DigiTrak steering let us match the drill to the bore, from short conduit shots to rock.

02

Vacuum excavation

Non-destructive digging with water and vacuum, using four vacuum excavation trucks. It exposes buried services safely, opens pits and clears spoil where hand digging or a bucket would risk a strike, and it is the usual first step before a bore goes near existing assets.

03

Potholing

Small, controlled holes that expose a service at the point where a bore, trench or pit will cross it. We confirm what is there, at what depth and in what position, before work starts, and record it for the plan. It is how a bore or trench is set to clear what is already in the ground.

04

Pipe and conduit installation

PE pipe for water and conduit for power and communications, installed by directional drilling or in trench, with the pits at each end. Recent work includes a 355 mm PE100 water main to Sydney Water specification and 63 mm PE100 conduit in the ACT.

Road and creek crossings

Under-road boring and creek, drain and driveway crossings that avoid cutting the surface. Roads, creeks and car parks are crossed from pits set clear of the surface. Permits stay with the asset owner and the client, and we coordinate traffic support through Spot On Traffic.

Excavation and pits

The civil work around the bore: entry and exit pits, trenching, pit and pipe installation, and reinstatement preparation. It is done with three compact excavators, a Case track loader and tippers, so the pits for a bore are dug and cleared by the same contractor that drills it.

Who we work for

We work for civil head contractors, electrical and telecommunications contractors, utilities, councils, developers, farms and rural property owners. Most enquiries come from an estimator or project manager who has a route to cross and a deadline to meet.

Our work covers Sydney, the Hawkesbury, Western Sydney, Canberra and the ACT and the South Coast and Illawarra, plus regional NSW.

How a job runs

  1. Enquiry and BYDA. We take the route and product, and request Before You Dig Australia plans.
  2. Locate and pothole. Services are found and exposed.
  3. Plan the bore or trench. We choose the method, rig, pits and fluid handling.
  4. Install. The bore, trench or pit work is carried out and tracked.
  5. Reinstate. Pits are backfilled and surfaces restored.
  6. Handover. You receive the installed result and the job is closed out.
